Travelling to the stadium by road
The FIFA World Cup Stadium Gelsenkirchen is located mid-way between the city centre and the suburb of Buer. The traffic links are excellent. This is true whether you are using public transport or coming by car or coach. You are advised to arrive early, especially on days with early kick-offs, when 'normal traffic' is still on the roads.

The stadium opens three hours before kick-off. If you'll be arriving early to party with other fans in the city centre or in Buer, you should still park at the stadium and take tram number 302. The Veltins Arena tram stop is right next to the stadium.

You must have a ticket to use the stadium car parks. This will be checked at the entrance. Please keep your ticket and the € 4.00 car-park charge at the ready. The car park at the park-and-ride facility at Herne-Crange is free. Shuttle buses will bring you to the stadium free of charge and totally relaxed in around ten minutes. The car park is signposted from the Herne-Crange turn-off on the A 42 motorway.

Ticket-holders driving to the stadium should follow the sector colour (blue, green or yellow) marked on their ticket. You will also find these colours on the road signs leading to the stadium. Please switch off your navigation system. You will then be guided straight from the motorway to your car park. The colour-coded signs begin at all the motorway intersections around Gelsenkirchen (Marl-Nord, Recklinghausen, Herne, Oberhausen-West, Oberhausen and Bottrop). From here please follow your colour of sign. You will then be guided via the efficient network of main roads to your car park by the stadium. Your car park is at most ten minutes away from the stadium on foot.

Travelling to the stadium by public transport
From the central train station or the suburb of Buer, take tram number 302 to get to the stadium. If necessary, additional shuttle buses will be deployed to and from the central train station. The stadium is a three-minute walk from the Veltins Arena tram stop and five minutes from the Willy-Brandt-Allee stop.

The Veltins Arena tram stop is not suitable for people with limited mobility. Please make use of the stop on Willy-Brandt-Allee, which offers level boarding and alighting.

From Gelsenkirchen train station (Hbf) to the stadium:
Tram 302 to Willy-Brandt-Allee or Veltins Arena, travel time approx. 15 minutes

From Buer Rathaus to the stadium:
Tram 302 to Veltins Arena or Willy-Brandt-Allee, travel time approx. 10 minutes

From the airport to Gelsenkirchen train station:
Gelsenkirchen is 45 km from Düsseldorf international airport, 100 km from Cologne-Bonn airport, 45 km from Dortmund airport and 100 km from Münster-Osnabrück airport. Paderborn-Lippstadt airport is 120 km from Gelsenkirchen. The airports in Düsseldorf and Cologne-Bonn offer direct national (DB) and suburban (S-Bahn) rail links. Dortmund airport is connected to the rail network via shuttle bus to Holzwickede railway station or Dortmund central station. From Münster-Osnabrück airport express buses run to the railway stations at Ibbenhausen, Münster and Osnabrück.

At the main station train information is displayed on the passenger information display and the destination displays on the platforms. In addition, passengers are requested to listen out for announcements and, if necessary, seek information at the welcome desk ("Fußball"). Passenger service personnel will be on hand at the main station and all other major stations and stops and happy to provide more information.

Extra suburban trains, regional trains, buses and trams will be put on for the return journey after the game. Within Gelsenkirchen and the area served by the Rhine-Ruhr Public Transport Authority (VRR), public transport will run into the night. For this purpose suburban railways and night buses will run until 'normal services' resume in the early morning hours.

Information on combined public transport tickets
Your World Cup match ticket also includes free travel on local public transport. It is valid on the day of the match until services stop running and can be used on all means of public transport in the VRR zone, except services that attract an extra charge, such as IC/ICE trains. The most convenient solution for customers is a ticket they receive automatically without having to go to a ticket machine or a customer centre! For hotel guests a combination ticket agreement has also been entered into with the German Hotel and Restaurant Association and the local public transport system in North Rhine-Westphalia. Please enquire about this ticket at your hotel.

For visitors without a 'combination ticket' there remains the standard offering of VRR tickets and the NRW-Tarif, which offers cheap travel in North Rhine-Westphalia.

The 'TagesTicket' (day ticket), which is valid across the VRR zone, and the 'Schöner Tag Ticket NRW', which offers cheap travel throughout North-Rhine Westphalia, can be purchased from ticket machines at railway stations and bus and tram stops as well as from customer centres and tourist information offices in North Rhine-Westphalia, which includes Gelsenkirchen, of course.

Travelling to the stadium by coach
All coach operators are urgently requested to inform the stadium of their planned itinerary:

E-Mail: wm2006-verkehr@gelsenkirchen.de

You should state the game you are travelling to, how many coaches are planned and when you expect to arrive at the stadium. It would also be helpful to know the nationality and stand colour of your passengers.

Coach operators who arrive early to allow fans to party in the city before kick-off are requested to park their coach at the stadium. Please do not drive into the centre of Gelsenkirchen or Buer. There are no coach parks in the city centres! The Veltins Arena tram stop (line 302) is located right next to the stadium. From here trams run straight to Gelsenkirchen and Buer city centres as well as to the FIFA Fan Fest.

Only ticket-holders are allowed to use the stadium car parks on matchdays in Gelsenkirchen. The parking fee per coach is €10.00. It is strictly forbidden to load or unload passengers adjacent to the stadium. Always drive to the coach park.

Please follow the sector colour (red, blue or green) marked on the ticket on arrival. You will then be directed from the motorways straight to the coach park. The colour-coded road signs begin at all the motorway intersections around Gelsenkirchen (Marl-Nord, Recklinghausen, Herne, Oberhausen-West, Oberhausen and Bottrop). Please do not use your navigation system. From here please follow your colour of sign. You will then be guided via the efficient network of main roads to the coach park by the stadium. The coach park is at most five minutes away from the stadium on foot.

Barrier-free access to the FIFA World Cup stadium using public transport
Barrier-free access for disabled persons to the FIFA World Cup Stadium is possible from the airports at Düsseldorf, Cologne-Bonn, Dortmund, Münster-Osnabrück and Paderborn-Lippstadt and from Gelsenkirchen railway station.

At the railway station wheelchair lifts on the platforms facilitate access to and from national train services. At present passengers with limited mobility are guided by staff via ramps from the platforms to the lower level, from where the travel centre and barrier-free public conveniences can be reached without difficulty. By the time the World Cup begins Gelsenkirchen railway station will have been modernised and all barriers will have been removed, thus ensuring the lower levels can be accessed from the platforms unaided.

Limited-mobility matchgoers can access the number 302 tram stop via a lift. Take this tram in the direction of Gelsenkirchen-Buer/Rathaus and alight at the "Willy-Brandt-Allee" stop near the stadium. This tram stop is designed to take wheelchairs and is about five minutes from the stadium. The 302 tram makes almost exclusive use of low-floor vehicles. Additional shuttle buses that can carry spectators in wheelchairs are also set to be used during the World Cup.

Special direction signs for persons of limited mobility have been put up at the airports serving Gelsenkirchen. Additional signs will also be erected at railway stations and bus/tram stops as well the car and coach parks and other transfer points for the duration of the World Cup. In some cases spoken announcements will also be made in writing.

Ticket outlets for disabled persons who are not entitled to free travel offer barrier-free access. To obtain further information call 01803-50 40 30, send an e-Mail to service@bogestra.de or visit www.bogestra.de. The customer service centre in Gelsenkirchen is located in front of the station (Bahnhofsvorplatz 5, 45879 Gelsenkirchen) and is open Mondays to Fridays from 7.00 am to 6.30 pm and Saturdays from 7.00 am to 3.00 pm. An additional customer service centre is located in Buer (Goldbergstrasse 1, 45894 Gelsenkirchen). It is also open Mondays to Fridays from 7.00 am to 6.30 pm and Saturdays from 7.00 am to 3.00 pm.

Low-floor shuttle buses will run from the park-and-ride car parks to the stadium for people with limited mobility. In addition, special road signs will direct limited-mobility matchgoers arriving by car straight to car parks in the immediate vicinity of the stadium. The Red Cross is also organising special transport in association with local disabled persons organisations.
