English fan zone at the trotting race course

To do justice to the anticipated arrival of visitors for the quarter-final match in Gelsenkirchen, the City of Gelsenkirchen has decided to provide an additional public viewing area. Simao proves the party-pooper

Although Portugal had already qualified for the Second Round going into their final group game at the Schalke Arena, they did not let up against Mexico. In front of 52,000 spectators Felipe Scolari's team won the game 2-1 thanks to goals from Maniche (6') and Simao (24'). Jose Fonseca (29') replied for Mexico. The result may have spoilt the Mexican party somewhat, but they still reached the last 16 after Angola could only draw 1-1 with Iran in Leipzig. More ...

Argentine party at the Arena

José Pekerman's side did what Ecuador had done before them and won their match in Gelsenkirchen. Goals from Maxi Rodriguez (6' and 41'), Esteban Cambiasso (31'), Hernan Crespo (78'), Carlos Tevez (84') and Lionel Messi (88') saw them cruise to a 6-0 win over Serbia & Montenegro in front of a 52,000 crowd (sold out), which included Diego Armando Maradona. Rosicky gala in Schalke thanks to the World Cup!
